While respecting the original plot, this new adaptation of Carmen, with its highly urban and resolutely contemporary tone, resonates with current awareness of the place of women in our society, their emancipation, their desire for equality, and raises the question of feminicide.
A rebellious Seville gypsy woman is stopped in her quest for freedom by a man's murderous jealousy.
The originality of this choreography finds its strength in a contemporary gestural style, with moments of musicality that combine the instrumental luxuriance of Georges Bizet and Rodion Shchedrin with a musical creation by Iván Julliard.
