The preparation of this record was a rare fluidity. We imagined a thousand ways of evoking Django Reinhardt, through his era, his compositions, his solos, and through the eyes of those who paid tribute to him. Every idea and suggestion offered to Baptiste was met with lively, stimulating riposte, as if, little by little, the language of the gypsy genius seemed to embrace his own, natural, inhabited and gushing. All that remained was for the music to find its place.
And so, in the nakedness of the trio, nothing is missing and everything is crystal-clear. Baptiste Herbin reveals exceptional depth. His incomparable virtuosity gives way to an expression free of all will, revealing the essence of the music like a rough diamond.
