Follow the coastal footpath to discover
the secret beaches and coves...
Anse de Bonne Terrasse (Bonne Terrasse Cove)
Very little people know about the cove.
In the old days Bonne Terrasse was the stronghold of the fishermen
of Ramatuelle.
It's long semicircular stretch of sand of 150 meters is typical
and can only be reached by a footpath.

All the bouillabaisse lovers come and gather
there in the evening.
(Bonne terrasse, the lighthouse 30 minutes)

Mind your feet!
The sea is packed with sea urchins and pebbles.

Cap Camarat (Cape Camarat)
The lighthouse of Camarat is the 2nd lighthouse
in France for the hight of its beam (130 meters). It owes its name
to a seigneurial demesne of the 14th century.
It dates from 1838 and acquired the title of listed natural site
in 1993. The petrol engin was replaced by electricity in 1946.
Since 1977 it is automatic and remote-controlled since the lighthouse
of the island of Porquerolles. Its white light reaches up to 60
km and shines 4 times every 15 seconds.
From the top of the tower, when the Mistral
is blowing , the view is very clear over the sea and capes and coast
of the Var ; to the west, the Iles d'Or (Golden Islands) or Iles
d'Hyères (Islands of Hyeres) : Le Levant, Port-Cros, Bagaud,
Porquerolles.
For reasons of safety, the access to the headlight is not authorized.
" Down! "
For those
on foot, take the footpath to the left of the lighthouse that joins
up with the coastal footpath just before "l'Ile aux oiseaux"
(Bird Island) or Rocher des Portes : to the east it leads to the
beach of Pampelonne (50 min. walk), to the west to l''Escalet (1
hour 20 min. walk), and Cape Taillat (1 hour 55 min. walk).

Cap Taillat (Cape Taillat)
40 minutes walk, the 8th wonder of the world
!
This peninsula was already inhabited 200 years B.C. being protected
from all the local winds. It creates a division between the Bay
of Briande (La Croix Valmer) and the Bay of Bonporteau (Ramatuelle).
This beautiful site was listed in 1993 and now belongs to the Conservatoire
du Littoral (Coastal Preservation Society).

"
If your feeling hungry"

There is nowhere to buy any
food or drink within 40 min.. But in summer if your lucky a motor
dinghy goes round the inaccessible creeks with cold drinks and snacks.
Plage de l'Escalet (Escalet
Beach)
On each side of the two sandy coves you can
admire two different kind of rocks : to the left (east) the statuesque
granit rocks just after the little private harbour and to the right
(west) the chiselled schist rocks.
" On the water"
In the summer season why not
take a hobby cat or canoe to discover the secret coves that can
only be reached by the sea ?
Les criques du Canadel (Canadel
coves)
Definitely one of the most beautiful landscapes
of the Mediterranean.

To go there take the coastal footpath (on
your right) starting from the patio of l'Escalet. 200 meters on
you will discover a series of beautiful coves and deep creeks with
the peninsula of Cap Taillat in the background.
"
The cunning plan"
Go there early in the morning to have a sandy
cove all to yourself. |
