Le rocher des portes
A few minutes away from the lighthouse of Camarat you will see a rock emerging from the sea : this is Bird Island.
The ochre colour of the rock has changed to white marked by the droppings of the black cormorants. In summer a few brave swimmers try to reach the island but they never stay for long.

Le rocher des portes

The island is constituted of pointed rocks, not a flat surface to be seen, ideal for the birds that live there...in winter only a few sea urchin lovers dare challenge the undertow of this strange and rare place.

Le Dolmen de la Briande
At the peninsula of Taillat at the old "maison de la douane" (customs house) go up the path 150 meters and you will find the dolmen. It was originally a tomb built around 3000-2000 B.C. and was restored in 1996. It consisted of a chamber and a corridor (no longer existing).

L'Aiguade
In front of the "maison de la douane" (customs house) you will find a lovely little beach with the ruins of an "aiguade" .

Lou Pous (the well)
To the right of the beach of Pampelonne, after the restaurant "Le Migon", on the coastal footpath leaning against the rock you will find a well (Lou Pous in Provençal).
Lou pous is a spring used by the fishermen of Ramatuelle to keep their bottles of wine cool or for washing-up in summer.

La Roche Escudelier (The Escudelier rock)
Starting from the little private harbour of l'Escalet follow the coastal footpath for 150 meters and you will find a rock with a commemorative plaque mentioning the submarine missions and the escape of the standard of the 2nd regiment of dragoons during the Second World War.

La Batterie Napoléonienne (The Napoleonic battery)
Under Cape Camarat you will find the ruins of a Napoleonic battery dating from the blockade of 1804.

Le Château Volterra (private property) (Castle of Volterra)
Just after the Cape Camarat you will see one of Provence's most prestigious estates : the castle of Volterra . It was built between 1906 and 1912 and belonged to some rich Englishmen. It was called the Castle of Camarat at the time.
Simone Volterra bought it in 1926 (it is now named after her). She gave many a grand reception there with famous people such as Raimu, Colette, Joséphine Baker, Jean Cocteau.

Le Château Volterra

La maison des douaniers (The customs house)
(Built beginning of the 19th century). Is now a museum.

The museum consists of bill boards on the Conservatoire du Littoral (Coastal Preservation Society), the history of Cape Taillat, and archeological facts found locally.
