Although there are 32 sorts of winds in Provence
there are 3 main ones at Ramatuelle.
The famous Mistral is a strong north west
wind that is accelerated by the gorge of the Rhône valley.
It blows away the clouds and cleanses the air by cooling it. During
of just after the Mistral the contrasts of the landscape are more
pronounced and beautiful.
The Ponent (West– South–West) is a tropical maritime wind, more moderate than the Mistral it often
drops at sunset.
The Levant or East wind owes it
name to the Ile de Levant that you can see from the Moulins de Paillas.
It brings rain and big waves to the joy of the body-boarders and
windsurfers.
Finally but more rare, the Sirocco is a dry and warm
wind coming from the Sahara desert. It covers everything with an
ochre coloured dust from the desert sands.
